Attention all grads, this is a very important reminder that your application package for all SJC Grad Awards/Bursaries/Scholarships are due in Student Services by 3:00 pm on Friday, February 28th.  If you have any questions or concerns, please see your guidance counsellor.

Attention grade 12 students, Scholartree.ca says that February to June is the peak scholarship period for grade 12 students.  This is the time of year that there is the most amount of scholarships available to students.  Peak season, coupled with the fact that some students who were actively looking for scholarships in October and November have dropped off, makes this a great time for students to find and apply to scholarships.  Scholartree.ca adds new scholarships every week.

Attention all math contest writers, if you signed up for the grade 9, 10 or 11 math contests, please report to the library before announcements tomorrow Tuesday, February 25th.  Bring a pencil and a calculator.

Attention students who are traveling to Germany, Switzerland, and Italy over the March break 2020, there will be one final meeting on February 26th at the beginning of your lunch.  You must see Mrs. Duffy if you have a junior lunch in room 231 and Mrs. DiStefano if you have a senior lunch in room 232.  Your attendance is mandatory.

Attention all grads, this is a reminder that all eligible voters will be able to cast their ballot for this year’s Valedictorian on Mon. Feb. 24th during period 2.  A reminder that the Valedictorian Candidate essays are posted in the Main Office incase you missed their appearance this past week on SJC-TV.

Attention all SHSM sports students, please have permission forms for Raptor 905 career forum returned to Mr. DeProsperis by today.  This trip is next week on Tuesday, February 25th.  Once again, all grade 11 and 12 SHSM sports students please return permission forms to Mr. DeProsperis for next weeks Raptor 905 trip by today.

Attention all students who ordered a Modern Language Department Hoodie.  Your payment is due via SchoolCash Online by today.  Your order has been placed and your payment will be required at this time.

Attention all students travelling to France and Italy with the Modern Languages Department over the March Break, there will be an important meeting today at the start of senior lunch in room 210.  Important final details will be provided, and you will also receive your ticket package.  All participants are required to attend.

Attention singers, if you like to sing and would like the chance to sing with some of your peers, then the St. John’s Vocal ensemble is for you.  All grades and levels of experience are welcome.  The choir meets once a week, on Tuesday’s after school from 3:15 – 4:15.  The choir has two singing opportunities in April that they will begin preparing for right away; one is for a school Mass and one is an evening concert for parents and friends.  If you are interested in one or both opportunities, please sign up on the board outside of the music room, room 142.  The group needs a minimum of 10 people to run, so don’t be shy, sign up today.

It’s that time of the year again.  The girl’s rugby team is starting up with their fitness blitz next Tuesday.  You don’t have to have played before, come out and give it a try.  All schedule information and forms can be found outside room 149.  If you have any questions, please talk to Ms. Hutchison.

Attention students looking to attend Niagara College in the fall.  Niagara College has open houses scheduled at their Welland & Niagara On-the-Lake campuses on Saturday, March 28th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Register to attend the open house before March 26th for a chance to win an Amazon gift card.  Students who attend the open house can enter to win a $3,000.00 tuition award.  See the poster on the bulletin board in the Student Services hallway for details.

We will be having a mandatory meeting for all students attending the STEAM conference today.  The meeting will take place over both lunches in Room 161.  We will be going over important information for the day.

Attention graduates:  The Samuel W. Stedman Foundation Bursary Programme is accepting applications by mail.  A limited number of bursaries will be granted to students in Brantford and Brant County.  These bursaries will only be granted to those students who will attend a recognized college or university in Ontario.  Applications are available in Student Services, see the hanging folders on the wall in the waiting area.  Applications are to be received by the Stedman Foundation, by mail, no later than April 30, 2020.

Congratulations to Mikaela H., Brady C., Grace R. and Meagan C.  These four Eagles had their short stories honored during this past Friday’s Laurier Stedman Prize celebration.  Of particular note were Brady and Grace’s short stories entries.  Brady’s short story, entitled “Eddy’s Ballad,” won a third prize honour while Grace Ratelband’s short story, “Yellow,” won a second place honour.  Way to go Eagles.

Attention Grade 12 students looking for financial aid to assist with college and university costs next year.  The Knights of Columbus Ontario Charity Foundation has a bursary program that awards five bursaries valued at $1,000.00 each.  Eligibility information and Applications are available in Student Services.  Applications are due by May 1, 2020 to the Ontario Knights of Columbus Bursary Program.
