Brantford Kinsmen Rib Fest is looking for lots of student volunteers this summer during their event held at Cockshutt Park.  There is lots of opportunity to gain volunteer hours between August 9th and August 13th.  Please see Student Services for the volunteer application.

Brant District Women’s Institute Committee is again offering two bursaries to eligible Brant students who are continuing their education at post-secondary.  A $1000.00 bursary will be awarded to the highest scoring applicant and a $500.00 bursary will go to the next highest scoring applicant.  They must reside in Brant County or live with a member of a Brant District women’s Institute branch.  Please see Student Services for more information.

This message is regarding important information for Graduation.  The families of our graduating students will have the opportunity to enter a lottery for an extra guest pass for the graduation ceremony.  Individual letters will be available for students to pick up in Student Services Friday, June 1, 2018.  The letter explains that we have an updated calculation of graduates participating in the ceremony, which means that we will have approximately 100 extra guest seats.  It also explains the procedure required if you wish to have a chance of obtaining one additional guest pass.  The letter must be signed by parents, dated and returned to the Student Services office by Friday, June 8, 2018 by 3:00 p.m.  Families who receive an extra pass will find it included in the grad package.  The Graduation packages will be ready for pickup in the Student Services office beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday June 14, 2018.  The package contains information regarding grad rehearsal and ceremony, one white pass for the graduate and three blue embossed passes for guests.  Graduates must sign for their package and may be required to show their student card.  They will not be permitted to pick packages up for other students.  Students with outstanding extra-curricular fees, textbooks, library books and/or other materials will have to clear these issues with the Office before receiving their package.  Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Attention all athletes and coaches, the annual athletic awards banquet will take place on Monday, June 4th in our cafeteria.  Tickets will be on sale in the cafeteria on Wednesday thru Friday, which will be the last day for tickets.  The cost is $20.00 and includes a chicken and rib BBQ dinner with sides.  Don’t miss out on this great annual event.  Coaches encourage and remind teams and award recipients.

St. Gabriel’s School is having their annual Fun Fair on Tuesday, June 5th.  They need your help to make the Fun Fair the best it can be.  If you would like to volunteer please see the flyer on the board by Student Services.

Discover your potential with the YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange Program.  You’ll travel to another part of Canada for a six week English/French cultural immersion program that gives you the opportunity to improve language skills, gain work experience in another province and make new friends.  Please see Madame in room 210 or student services if you require more information.

Attention students who will be in Grade 11 or 12 next school year, have you ever thought about helping those who have been devastated by a natural disaster?  If you have the passion, then next year’s mission trip is for you.  The school board has been offering this type of mission trip to various locations in North America for over 20 years.  The mission trip is a unique experience that allows you to put your faith into action.  You will get the chance to work with students from the other 2 high schools in our school board for one week.  The tentative location for next year’s mission trip is New Orleans, Louisiana to help in the relief of damage caused by over a decade of hurricanes and tornados.  If you are interested, please pick up an application form and get more details from Mrs. Malecki in room 147.  Spots are limited, so apply as soon as possible.  Applications are due back by June 1st at the latest.

If you are pursuing a career in medicine or health care and live in Brant County or Brantford ask your guidance counselor or Ms. Koolen about The Endowment Fund of the Kiwanis Club of Grand River.  You may qualify for one of our bursaries.  The deadline to apply is May 31st.

An announcement from Mrs. Ronson to all students attending HAVE A GO with the Job Skills class tomorrow at Holy Trinity in Simcoe.  Please meet in Mrs. Ronson’s room, room 141 by 9:15 a.m. for attendance and to get ready to catch the bus.  Dress in SJC spirit wear/gym clothes and running shoes.  Bring a lunch and/or money for the BBQ.  Sunscreen, hats and water are a must.  And most importantly if you have NOT handed in your permission form, please drop it off to room 141 and leave it on her desk. 

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Job Skills SPCA drive.  Last Friday, we dropped off the donations and the cheque and they were so appreciative.  Watch for our picture on the SPCA face book page.  Thanks again.

Today in the music room during junior lunch there will be a free concert by our very own Kendra P.  The concert will feature both classical and modern piano pieces which Kendra played with tremendous success at the Brantford Music Festival this spring.  Kendra will be playing our new baby grand piano which was donated by a former teacher, Stephen Moyer.  If you love listening to the piano or if you want to be inspired by amazing talent and dedication, then this concert is for you.  Feel free to bring your lunch.  All students who have junior lunch are welcome.  Again, that’s today during junior lunch.

All students who are going on the St. John’s fishing trip please attend a brief meeting in Room 267 at the beginning of lunch today.

Are you travelling to New York City tomorrow?  Then this important message is for you.  We will be having a short and an important meeting today at the beginning of junior lunch in Room 231.  It is important that you attend.
