Brant United Way is looking for students who would consider volunteering for their Giant Warehouse Sale.  There are lots of jobs, dates and times available.  Please fill out the online application at Brant united way.org.  Volunteer hours can start as soon as today until May 30th.

Brantford Kinsmen Rib Fest is looking for lots of student volunteers this summer during their event held at Cockshutt Park.  There is lots of opportunity to gain volunteer hours between August 9th and August 13th.  Please see Student Services for the Volunteer application.

Le Club Francais will be having a final meeting on May 23rd after school.  The final meeting consists of a dinner with a guest speaker.  If  you are interested in attending, please see Madame in Room 210 as soon as possible.  Space is limited.  Venez et Mangez un repas francais.

Brant District Women’s Institute Committee is again offering two Bursaries to eligible Brant students who are continuing their education at post-secondary.  A $1000.00 Bursary will be awarded to the highest scoring applicant and a $500.00 Bursary will go to the next highest scoring applicant.  They must reside in Brant County or live with a member of a Brant District Women’s Institute branch.  Please see Student Services for more information.

Students that are participating in the BCSSAA Track Meet tonight and tomorrow-Wednesday must verify the time of their events and provide your own transportation to PJ.  The schedule is posted by the gym doors.  There will not be a bus on Tuesday as it is after school hours.  There will be a bus on Wednesday morning leaving St. John’s at 8:30 a.m. going to PJ.  There will be a bus provided at 4:00 p.m. if you require transportation back to St. John’s.

This Wednesday in the music room, during junior lunch, there will be a free concert by our very own Kendra P.  The concert will feature both classical and modern piano pieces which Kendra played with tremendous success at the Brantford Music Festival this spring.  Kendra will be playing with our new baby grand piano which was donated by a former teacher, Stephen Moyer.  If you love listening to the piano or if you want to be inspired by amazing talent and dedication, then this concert is for you.  Feel free to bring your lunch.  All students who have junior lunch are welcome.  Again, that’s tomorrow, during junior lunch.

Attention music students, if you have any outstanding music or folders, please return them to the music room this week.  All music must be handed in as soon as possible because it needs to be put away properly.  If you hand it in after this week, you will have to put the music away yourself.  Please note that leaving it on your shelf is not handing it in.  Please give it to Mrs. Marriott directly.

Any junior girls rugby players interested in ordering the new windbreaker chosen by the team, please pick up a form outside of Room 149.  Order forms are due back to Mrs. Hutchison by next Tuesday.

This announcement is for track and field competitors.  There is a practice today after school.  The discus event will take place during school hours and both lunches today.  The javelin competition will take place tomorrow-Wednesday during the day and on both lunches.  The 3000m will take place after school today at Tollgate track.  Meet by the gym doors.  Athletes that placed 1st or 2nd at the St. John’s school track meet, must see Mrs. Elliott today, if you want to compete at the PJ meet tomorrow-Wednesday. 

Attention all girls trying out for the varsity fast pitch team, there will be a final tryout today-Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at spring gardens.  Please see Mrs. Malecki in room 147 if you cannot attend.

Are you travelling to New York City on the art trip?  Then this message is for you.  There will be a mandatory meeting today-Thursday, May 3rd at 6:30 p.m. in the upper staffroom for students, parents and/or guardians.  We will be going over the final details of the trip.  The count down to the trip has begun.

Students travelling to the Skills competition next week must attend a meeting today-Thursday, May 3rd at the beginning of period 3 (11:45 am) in room 277.  Again, all students attending the Skills competition next week must attend a mandatory meeting today-Thursday, May 3rd at the beginning of period 3 (11:45 am) in room 277.

SHAC will be meeting today at lunch.

All junior book club members please attend an important meeting at lunch today for the Forest of Reading trip.

Congratulations to the St. John’s Students whose artwork was picked for the Board Art Show.  The show of work from both Elementary and Secondary students will take place at the Gretzky Sports Centre in the lobby from Wednesday, May 2nd to Friday, May 4th.  Would the following students whom we have not got in contact with, please pick up a Show notice from Mrs. DiStefano:  Mekayla W, Emily T, Dionna E, Elliot E, Jessalyn F, Jessica D, Kyla C, Brady M, Caitlin M, Guneet D, Tristan B, Ben C and Daniella K.

Were you in Photography, Art or Media Arts last semester?  You may be interested in submitting Photography, video or poster designs to the Crosscuts Festival.  See Mrs. DiStefano for competition information and entry forms.  Entries are due by May 17th, so don’t hesitate, come to see Mrs. DiStefano today.

Leadership and Job Skills want to remind everyone that tomorrow, Thursday, May 3rd is the last day to submit your class photos through email for the homeroom photo challenge.  Be as creative and funny as possible.  The winning class will be announced on Monday.  They will receive a prize, have their photo shared on SJC’s social media, and also put in the yearbook.  We encourage all classes to participate.  Good luck.
