Attention students who have received an invitation to the Academic Award Ceremony that will take place at the school on the evening of Wednesday, November 7th, 2018.  It is imperative that you send in your RSVP.  Please go to SJC online and follow the links provided to indicate whether or not you will be attending.  Please RSVP by the November 1st deadline.  For any further details, please see Madame Iliopoulos-Da Silva in room 212.

Do you think brooms are only for flying around on at Halloween?  Do you want to throw stones and not worry about glass houses?  Then come and try out for the St. John’s curling team.  Come see Mr. Todd as soon as possible in room 202.  Mr. Todd only has junior lunch, but seniors are welcome to come into his class during their lunch to talk.  Don’t even knock.  Or just sign up on the door and tryout times will be posted when they are known.  What do you need?  A pair of perfectly clean shoes.  Come see Mr. Todd for details.

Attention Sr. Boys Volleyball players, please wash and return your uniform and shorts by Friday, November 2nd to Mr. Pomponio.

Any boys interested in trying out for Junior and Senior Basketball, you must sign up and pick up a permission form at the gym doors.  You must have a signed form at your first tryout.  Senior boys’ tryouts begin Monday, November 5th at 6:30-8 p.m. in the gym and Junior tryouts will begin on Monday, November 5th at 8 p.m. in the school gym.

Students are reminded to check the Community Volunteer Opportunities bulletin board outside of Student Services.  If you have come across a potential opportunity to accumulate community involvement hours and are not sure if the hours would count towards graduation requirements, please check with your guidance counsellor.  Once your purple community hours sheet has been completed, bring it to Mrs. Spiers in Student Services as soon as possible.  There are blank purple community hours sheets on the black shelving unit just inside Student Services.  Please help yourself.

Attention all boy’s hockey players.  Signups and an information meeting will take place tomorrow-Thursday at the beginning of both lunches in Room 203.  Please see Mr. MacKinlay for additional information or if you cannot attend.  First tryout is next Monday.

Attention all grade 9 students, this is a reminder to bring your Take Our Kids to Work permission forms in as soon as possible.  Don’t miss out on this exciting day.

Attention band students, concert band rehearsal will run today from 3:15-4:30.  All members are expected to attend.  Intermediate Band practice will be tomorrow after school.  New members are welcome.

SJC Writers, bring your completed news stories and other pieces to Mr. Salciccioli and Mr. Heida today.  Meet during junior lunch with Mr. Salciccioli in Portable 2 and senior lunch with Mr. Heida in Portable 6.  See you there

Listen up Eagles, tonight the junior and senior girls’ basketball teams close out the regular season against Paris.  These games will be part of a larger initiative run at all 6 high school that night called Basketball Fights Cancer.  There will be an optional donation collected at the door and all proceeds will be combined with the collections from the other schools and donated to McMaster Children’s Hospital – Hematology and Oncology Department.  Our goal is to fill the gym.  Come cheer on the girls and support a great cause.  Juniors play at 4 p.m. and seniors play at 5:30 p.m.

This message is for all grade 11 art students.  The due date to register for our Specialist High Skills Major Program in Arts and Culture is fast approaching.  If you have any questions about the program or require a registration form, please see Mrs. Distefano or Mr. D any time throughout the day.  Even if your art course does not start until the second semester, you still need to register this week.  Lastly, please remember that all forms must be signed and returned by tomorrow-Friday, at the latest.

Attention all grade 9 students, Take Our Kids to Work Day will be held on November 14th.  Students across Canada will spend the day at the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host.  This is a great opportunity to step into your future for a day.  If you did not receive a permission form, please ask your homeroom teacher.

Attention choir members, there is a rehearsal today after school as usual from 3:15 to 4:15.  All members are expected to attend.  Please be on time.  If anyone new was thinking of joining the choir, this is the last week for new members, so please join us today so that the chance does not pass you by.
