All students who did not make it to the academic awards banquet, your awards are ready for pick up in the Principals Office.  Please pick them up before school, after school or during your lunch time.

Attention Grade 12 students who consider themselves as leaders, achievers and innovators.  If you have limitless drive, ambition and determination you may be one of five lucky winners of the STEAM Horizon Awards.  You can apply for a $25,000.00 prize towards your post-secondary education.  Information about the prize program and how to apply can be found at steamhorizonawards.ca.  The deadline for applications in January 16, 2019.

Attention St. John’s College potential graduates for 2019.  At this point all students have completed a graduation application and have met with their guidance counselor to review credits, literacy and community volunteer hour requirements for graduation.  Please note there are several potential graduates who have not completed their 40 hours of community service which is a diploma requirement.  Volunteer community hours must be submitted by March 22, 2019.  Payment for grad fees has been posted on St. John’s College school cash on line.  Fees are $80.00 and are due by December 7, 2018.  The fees cover ceremony costs and a $25.00 photo sitting fee.  Once fees are paid a grad photo package , which includes a scheduled date and time for each student’s photo, will be mailed to the student’s home address.  Graduation photos will begin January 8th and finish January 23rd, 2019 from 8:00am to 4:00pm daily in room 274.  If any students are interested in putting their name forward as a Valedictorian candidate the due date for submission is February 8, 2019.  All graduation information is online at www.sjconline.ca.  Thank you for your attention in this matter.

The last tryout for girl’s hockey team is today at 3:30 at the Gretzky Center.

Attention students wishing to accumulate their 40 hours community service, please see Mrs. Spyers in Student Services about an opportunity to rake leaves for a senior citizen.  Since the snow will soon fly, we are looking for a student or students who are available this week if possible.

Students identifying as LGBTQ and all allies are invited to a special re-scheduled meeting tomorrow-Thursday, November 15th at 3 pm in the Divine Mercy room.  The purpose of this meeting is to socialize and discuss what your hopes are for an LGBTQ support group.  Please come with lots of feedback and ideas.  Thank you for your patience.

Do you want to improve your mathematical arithmetic?  Are you taking AP math this semester?  Do you need any math help at all?  If you are in either grade 9 or 10, then we have help for you.  There will be Math Homework Help with Mr. Yakymyshyn in Room 264 today-Wednesday, November 14th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Speak to Mr. Yakymyshyn for more details.

Students identifying as LGBTQ and all allies are invited to a special meeting today-Monday, November 12th in the Divine Mercy room with Sara, the social worker and vice principal Pimentel.  The purpose of this meeting is to socialize and discuss what your hopes are for an LGBTQ support group.  Please come with lots of feedback and ideas.  We look forward to seeing you there.

This is a reminder for Grade 12 students planning to apply to Queen’s University.  If you wish to apply to be a nominated applicant to the Queen’s University Chancellor’s Scholarship, which is a Major Admission Award, please pick up and complete a preliminary questionnaire in Student Services.  To qualify, students must demonstrate superior academic ability, creative, and original thinking.  Questionnaires are due back to Student Services by Tuesday, November 13th, 2018.

Girls Hockey tryouts begin tomorrow-Tuesday, November 6th and Wednesday, November 7th at 3:30 at the Gretzky Centre.  Signups are located by the gym doors.  You must pick up a permission form located beside the signup list prior to going on the ice.  Return the form to Mrs. Elliott before tryouts or give it to Ms. McDade on Tuesday prior to going on the ice.
