First Ontario Credit Union sponsors youth with opportunities to learn, grow, and develop new skills and friendships.  Co-operative Young Leaders summer camp is a unique experience for youth ages 14-18.  It is a series of week-long programs that bring young people together from across Ontario to learn about and practice co-operative principles, including obtaining leadership skills through games, team building, and community projects.  If you are interested in applying to attend the Co-operative Young Leaders summer camp, pick up an application in Student Services.  Applications are due by April 18, 2019 to First Ontario Credit Union.

 Attention concert band and intermediate band members, all students going on the tri-high event at Assumption today should meet in the music room at 1:15.  Please have your music, instruments, number one dress and anything else you need with you.  If you still need to hand in a permission form, please take it to Mrs. Marriott now, before the start of period 2.

Any students looking to attend University or College in the United States, there will be a College expo at  Roy Thompson hall in Toronto this Saturday, April 13th.  Meet universities, learn about NCAA, admission requirements, etc.  For more information see Mr. Pomponio.

Grad events are quickly moving along.  All photos and fee collections are now complete.  Students who missed the photos and have not paid their fees have now received two letters from the school.  They were given a date of March 29, 2019 to contact the school if they still wished to participate in the graduation ceremony.  There will only be three guest passes per grad for the ceremony at the Sanderson Centre on June 27, 2019.  Students are encouraged to network with their friends for extra guest passes.  Students are also encouraged to ensure they have checked on their diploma requirements for graduation:  30 credits, 40 hours of community service hours and fulfilled the literacy requirement.  Please note:  Grad Prom in Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Best Western Brant Park Inn between 5:30 and 10:00 p.m.  Tickets are $50.00 and will be sold from April 29th to May 3, 2019.  Please see the April Grad Newsletter on St. John’s College website.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Camilleri.

A huge congratulations to Cole Hipkin on being selected in this years OHL draft.  Cole was drafted by the Saginaw Spirit this past weekend.  The SJC school community wishes you luck in your future hockey endeavors.

Grade 12 students interested in applying for a Stedman Foundation bursary  please come to student services to obtain more information.  These bursaries are intended for students who might otherwise be unable to finance a post-secondary education even with the help of OSAP.  Applications for the bursaries are due by April 30, 2019.

Attention graduating students who wish to enter Edge Imaging’s $1,000.00 bursary contest, share your memories on Instagram and win.  Get contest details in Student Services or at edgeimaging.ca/win.  Entries are due by April 30th, 2019.

Track and Field practices will be tomorrow-Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 3:15 this week.  Tuesday is mandatory as we are finalizing the t-shirt order.  Samples sizes will be at practice on Tuesday.  Event signup for the Debbie Miller Classic will also be at Tuesday’s practice.  Please come prepared for both outdoor and indoor training.

Attention all Grade 12s, Prom is coming up quickly and we need to get planning.  If you would like to be apart of this year’s planning committee, please come to an important first meeting today at Senior lunch in Room 203.  Theme discussions will be made at this meeting.  Please bring your lunch and be prompt.

Student’s planning on attending a post-secondary school in the fall with intentions of pursuing scientific or technological careers may wish to apply to be nominated for the James Hillier Foundation scholarship.  This scholarship is for general academic fees up to $5,000.00 per year for a maximus of 4 years.  Nomination applications can be picked up in Student Services.  Nomination applications are due to Student Services by Friday, April 26, 2019.

Grade 12 female students interested in applying for a $1,500.00 Secondary School Achievement Award from the Canadian Federation of University Women Brantford, please come to student services to obtain more information.  This award will go to the successful applicant who is graduating with a minimum 83% in six 4U/4M level credits and who has applied to attend post-secondary school.  Applications for the Award are due to Student Services by May 8, 2019.

Grade 12 students interested in applying for the Ted Beare Memorial Bursary can obtain an application in Student Services.  Applications are invited from students who have graduated or will graduate in 2019 from a Brant County Secondary School and who will begin first-year students in September at a post-secondary institution is a sports related field such as, but not limited to, physical education, kinesiology, media studies leading to a career in sports journalism, or related programs.

Any students interested in part time work or a coop placement at Home Hardware, please see             Mr. Petitti as soon as possible.  If I am not in the office, please leave your name and contact info on the sign-up sheet.  This is a paid position for either coop or after school or during the summer.

Any students who will be either 16 or 17 years of age this summer, are invited to participate in a French immersion opportunity, work experience and exchange in Quebec for 6 weeks.  The YMCA is offering this French language summer work experience to student interested in improving their language skills.  See Madame in room 210 for more information.
