Attention Grade 12 students interested in applying for the Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarship Program.  Up to $10,000.00 each will be awarded to 170 students across Canada.  Students applying to university can view some details on the Scholarships, Awards, and Bursaries bulleting board outside of Student Services.  Scholarship applications are due to the Program October 25, 2019.

Attention grade 12 students wishing to apply for the Loran Scholarship.  This scholarship is renewable for up to four years with a total value of $100,000.00.  Full-time Canadian students with a cumulative average of 85% can be nominated by St. John’s College to apply for the scholarship.  Students can also apply without a nomination.  For the St. John’s College Loran Scholarship Nomination Application please come to Student Services to obtain this blue form from the hanging folder on the wall in the seating area.  Nomination Applications are due to Student Services by Friday, October 4, 2019. 

Attention curlers, anyone interested in trying out for the boys or girls curling team, come see Mr. Todd in Room 202 at 8:30 a.m. or on your lunch.  New curlers are welcome.  Mr. Todd doesn’t have junior lunch, but feel free to come into 202 during your lunch and Mr. Todd will take the time for you. 

Attention math people, students interested in writing a Fall Math Contest should come see Mr. Todd in Room 202 at 8:30 a.m. or at you lunch.  Mr. Todd will give you the details on entering the new math contest when you come see him.

A reminder to all those interested in auditioning for this year’s SJC NTS Drama performance entry.  Auditioning will begin today-Monday, September 30th on the stage in the Caf.  If you have any questions, please see Mr. Heida for more information.

Attention students needing to accumulate community involvement hours.  Brantwood is currently looking for volunteers at their school events, fundraising events, and programs, among other things.  Please see the opportunity posted on the board outside of Student Services.  Brantwood also welcomes co-op placements.

Students are reminded to ensure that the community hours they accumulate are eligible according to Ministry guidelines.  Hours should be for non-profit organizations and not duties that someone would normally be paid for.  Hours cannot be accumulated during school hours.  If you are unsure if your hours will count, please contact your guidance counsellor.  The community involvement hours forms are available on the black shelving unit in Student Services and they include information on the back about eligible and ineligible activities.  Again, when in doubt, ask questions.

The blessing of the newly created Rosary Garden will be taking place on Thursday, October 3rd at 3:30 in the courtyard.  If you helped to create the garden in June or if you wish to attend, please see Madame in Room 210 so that arrangements can be made based on the number of people attending.

This is an announcement that the SJC Swim team is about to get under way.  There will be a signup sheet outside of room 277, please take a form and put your name on the list.  Practices will be at 7 am on Mondays and after school on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Gretzky center pool.  Listen for more announcements in the coming weeks or see Mr. Perras.  Our first meet is in November.

Senior students, have you ever thought about helping those who have been devastated by a natural disaster?  If you have this passion, then this year’s mission trip might be for you.  The school board has been offering mission trips for over 20 years.  The mission trip is a unique experience that allows you to put your faith into action.  You will get the chance to work with other students from our school board for one week.  This opportunity to live your faith by helping others is open to all senior students.  The tentative location for this year’s mission trip is southern Louisiana to help in the relief of damage caused by over a decade of hurricanes and flash flooding.  If you are interested, please pick up an application form from Mrs. Padmore in the attendance office or from Mrs. Malecki in Room 203.  Spots are very limited, so apply as soon as possible.  Application are due back by October 1st at the latest.

Attention students traveling to France & Italy with the Modern Languages Department during the March Break.  Your second payment is due on September 30th.  You can bring your cheque to Madame or you can make the payment via e-transfer.  If you have not yet submitted your passport information, it is also required at this time.  All participants are asked to see Madame this week regarding this payment.

Good morning Eagles, we have the first trophy of the year in our possession.  Golf, yes, golf.  Congratulations to Ben Feijo, Ethan Szabo, Mitchell Ferras, Gio Tancredi and Cole Williams.  Your Eagles golf team managed to capture the BCSSAA title by 8 strokes.  Wish them luck as they travel to Listowel next week to compete at CWOSSA.

Reminder to all cross-country students that they will be dismissed at 2:15 this afternoon, please immediately meet at the Paris Road doors.  The Team will be walking over to W. Ross for the Run for Light.

Are you interested in the Germany, Switzerland, and Italy art trip for March Break 2020, then this message is for you?  However, if you are already registered for the trip, you can disregard this message.  There will be a parent information tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Room 232 (Mrs. DiStefano’s room).

Attention students looking to obtain some community involvement hours.  We have some new opportunities posted on the board outside of student services.    Brantwood Farms is looking for volunteers to assist at their charity event called Ghost Encounters Haunted Barn and Hayride.  Positions include actors, security, ticket taking, makeup and costumes.  Another opportunity is with our Daily Bread Dinners at Grace Anglican Church.  Positions include dishwashing, assisting with serving and cleanup.  Also, the Grand River Council on Aging are seeking student volunteers to help with their fundraiser called Taco Fest at Harmony Square on September 29th.  Students can help with a variety of activities including helping vendors and contestants to set up their booths, helping contestants serve tacos, collect ballots and general errands. Volunteers are also needed at Harmony Square for their Scare in the Square on Friday, October 4th and Saturday, October 5th.   Contact information for all these opportunities is posted on the board outside of Student Services.
