Attention Grade 12 students looking to attend the University of Guelph in the fall.  The University of Guelph has many scholarships to be awarded.  They have 8 President’s Scholarships, 2 Lincoln Alexander Scholarships, and 2 Chancellor’s Scholarships.  Each scholarship has a value of $42,000.00 and includes a research assistantship position and mentorship by one of Guelph’s leading professors.  Students must achieve a minimum of 90% admission average to apply.  For more information see the poster on the bulleting board outside of Student Services or go to admission.uoguelph.ca/topscholarships.  Applications are due to the University of Guelph by January 27, 2020.

Girls hockey tryouts begin tomorrow-Thursday from 3-4 at the Gretzky rinks.  You must have a signed permission form before you can step on the ice.  Sign ups and forms are by the gym doors.  See Mrs. Elliott if you cannot make tomorrows tryout.

Attention all Gr. 12 students planning on attending a post-secondary institution next year.  The University Application Workshop is Wednesday, November 13th during Period 2.  The College Application Workshop is Wednesday, November 20th during Period 1. Please see your guidance counsellor if you have any questions.

Attention any boys wishing to try out for the varsity boy’s hockey team, please come and see Mr. MacKinlay in Student Services today to sign up and pick up permission forms.

Any students still interested in wrestling for the school team, there is still time to get a permission form by the gym doors.  Please return it to Mr. Pomponio or Mr. Szeman by tomorrow-Thursday, November 7th.

Ok senior stem members, it’s your turn to investigate the properties of dry ice.  Come to room 161 on senior lunch only, today, Wednesday, November 6th, for hands on activities exploring solid carbon dioxide.  See Mrs. Koolen or Mrs. Todd with any questions.

Attention students wishing to accumulate some community service hours in the immediate future.  We have an opportunity posted on the bulletin board outside of Student Services.  A senior citizen has requested that students attend at her property in the St. John’s College area to rake leaves over the next week or so.  Please see details on the bulletin board.

Students wishing to accumulate community volunteer hours should check the opportunities board outside of Student Services regularly.  Currently the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers for their

Kettle Campaign.  There is a volunteer meeting at the Salvation Army this coming Monday, November 4th at 7:00 pm.  Call 519-752-7813 or see details posted on the opportunities board outside of Student Services.  Regarding other potential community service hour accumulation opportunities that students discover, students are reminded that if they are not sure if the activity would count towards their graduation requirement they should contact their Guidance Counsellor.  As always, Community Involvement Activity sheets are available in Student Services.

Ross Macdonald School on Monday to Thursday starting at 3:30 pm.  If you are interested, please pick up permission forms at the Gym doors and return it to Mr. Pomponio by Monday, November 4th.

Tomorrow-Saturday, November 2nd our Junior Football Eagles are playing against Paris High School for the Championship.  Please come out to North Park football field for 12 noon to support your Eagles.  Admission is $3.00 for students and $5.00 for adults.  Fan support is needed.

Attention Grade 12 students looking to attend post-secondary school next year.  Scholarship season is fully underway.  There is currently 7.5 million dollars’ worth of scholarships that are open for application on scholartree.ca.  Once a student completes their profile, they will be matched with all the awards that they qualify for.  Currently the following are available:  Scholarship for Music and Art students, Live Bright Scholarship, and Scholarship for Community Leadership.  Visit scholartree.ca for details.

Attention Grade 12 students planning to apply to attend Queen’s University in the fall.  Queen’s offers several Major Admission Awards.  Interested students can visit www.queensu.ca for more information.  One of the Queen’s awards, the Chancellor’s Scholarship requires students to be nominated by their high school to apply.  The nomination applications for the Chancellor’s Scholarship are in Student Services in the hanging files in the seating area.  Nomination applications are due to Student Services by November 8th.

A special reminder to anyone who wants to tryout for the girls curling team that our next tryout is today-Wednesday, October 30th.  No experience is needed, but Mr. Todd really needs to know who is coming.  So, if you signed up, please drop by room 202 to let Mr. Todd know if you can make it.

There is a meeting at senior lunch today in Room 243 for anyone attending Thursday’s Laurier “Day at University” trip.  Again, the meeting is today during senior lunch in room 243.

Attention grade 12 students, Burger King has scholarships available up to $50,000.00.  Canadian senior students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher can apply from now until December 15th, 2910.  Students are encouraged to visit bk-scholars.com for details.  Check the bulletin board outside of Student Services for the Burger King poster.

St. Pius Church is looking for students to help with our Hallowe’en for Hoodies project.  Join us as we support the Saint Vincent de Paul Society with a collection of cold weather items.  On Thursday, October 31st we’ll be going door to door collecting hoodies, coats, mitts, scarves, gloves, and other cold weather gear to help our less fortunate neighbors through the winter.  This is a great way to get out on Hallowe’en evening to support the community and spend more time with friends.  To find out more information, contact Andrew Beach at St. Pius Church or speak to Chap Andy.

Congratulations are in order for the September Students of the Month who have made outstanding contributions to our school community.  We congratulate Ariana Goodale, Sebastian DeGrandis, Nathan Girardi and Isaias Schornagel.  These winners are asked to see Mr. Picone to pick up their prizes.  Well done to the four of you!
