Introduction

The grade 9 course is exploratory and introduces students to concepts and skills related to hairstyling and aesthetics including hair nails and skin care applications.

Students will develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers in the field. 

Course Description 

Hairstyling and Aesthetics, Grade 9, Open (TXJ1O1)

This exploratory course introduces students to concepts and skills related to hairstyling and aesthetics, including hair, nail, and skin care applications. Students will develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers in the field.

In this course students will:

  • explore current trends in hairstyling
  • learn and develop skills in hairstyling using thermal tools
  • learn and develop skills in various braiding techniques
  • learn and develop skills in casual and formal updo techniques
  • learn basic techniques in makeup application and nail art
