Catholic Education Week - Friday May 7, 2021

Today we celebrate “Marvelling in Wonder”: When creation was completed, God saw that it was good, and rested. The sabbath was not just recovery from all the work God had done, but time for God to take pure delight in its goodness. We too are invited to be silent and contemplate the beauty of the created order; to stand in reverance before the awesome gift that is our common home.

Prayer

Give us eyes, O Lord,
to see your presence and your work all around us,
in the greatness of the universe and in the smallest acts of kindness and compassion.
Give us the heart of a child, to recognize the countless miracles of each day,
and to know you are the source of all of them.
Give us the curiosity to keep asking questions, to keep learning and growing,
and to know that you are with us at every step of that journey.
May we come to know you better, and may we come to love you more,
so that our lives will be filled with awe, gratitude, and praise.
Guide our path, mysterious and compassionate God,
for we pray in the name of Jesus, your Son, our Lord.

Amen.

On this final day of Catholic Education Week, we are reminded that our faith is a journey - a journey to know and love God more and more, a journey of opening ourselves to the awesome mystery of who God is, who invites us to grow in wide-eyed wonder. As people of faith, we never really “arrive;” we never come to a point where we have “figured God out,” and if we think we have, we know that this cannot really be God. God calls us to look at the universe in its vastness and to understand that its Creator loves and cares for each one of us, and wants a relationship with us. We can always discover new richness and depth in the God who cares for us, and who invites us both to confidence and humility.
